The multiple-time Oscar nominated animation studio, Cartoon Saloon, headquartered here in Kilkenny, have dropped the first official look at upcoming feature Kindred Spirits.
Directed and co-produced by ‘Saloon co-founder Tomm Moore (himself an Academy Award-nominated director, don’t you know), the trailer and imagery were show at this week’s Cartoon Movie industry event.
Per Cartoon Brew, the story, financing and production elements are still being fine-tuned, and the YouTube channel description happens to mention 2029, but even at this stage, it’s great to get a look at what’s coming next. That writeup (linked) is worth a read too for some insights from Moore on the feature’s development.
What’ it all about?
Kindred Spirits tells the tale of two children dealt a very bad hand. Mara, an Irish refugee child alone in New York in 1847, meets Tushka, a Choctaw Nation son far from the warmth of his family.
When their paths align, the two journey across America through epic adventures and magical encounters, watched over by Mara’s brother Dan, who cannot accept his own passing into the spirit realm. Together, they search for people to call family and a place to call home.
